Rum and Coke
Sound Designer and Audio Mixer
This video was shot while enjoying a rum and coke on a recent warm summer evening, with the intent of doing a full sound replacement. The sounds for this replacement were extracted from an extensive personal library of individual bird sounds and broad field recording/nature samples compiled over the better part of a decade for use in recording and sound design. The most recent addition to this library was a group of recordings taken in and around northern Baltimore during the Brood X periodical cicada emergence. While the originally envisioned soundscape was essentially limited to normal nature sounds, and the idea was to recreate nature that at that time didn’t exist due to the crushing 100db sound of the ongoing cicada invasion, it ultimately seemed right to include them, but in a controlled way. Lastly, an old Chris Bouchillon tune called Hannah was processed in the manner of a poorly kept AM radio and included.
